The Bible is God’s gift to us. He has preserved it so that we can know Him better. His Word is brimming with insight and inspiration, and it speaks to each person in a unique way. For many Christians, there are some parts of scripture that are especially moving. Here are my five favorite bible verses with their meaning, and why I love them:
1. John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Why do I love this scripture:
It summarizes the entire Gospel in one simple sentence. This is what we believe- that we were bound for hell, but we have been saved because God loved us enough to send His son to die in our place.
2. John 15:18-19
If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
Why do I love this scripture:
It reminds me that a lot of the bad things that happen in this life are a result of a broken world. Despite our sufferings, despite all of the trials we face, there is a beautiful promise in the middle of this scripture that tells us that God has chosen us and that he will be with us every step of the way.
3. Romans 8:18
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Why I love this scripture:
The struggles of life can seem overwhelming at times, we’ve all been there. But God has promised us that if we trust Him, we will be rewarded. This verse is a reminder to always have faith so that we can one day know eternal joy. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait till the day we get to see God in all of His glory.
4. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Why I love this scripture:
There are a lot of things in the past I regret, decisions I made, people I hurt, bad habits that broke me and others. When we’re saved though, we are changed radically from the inside out. Jesus lives in us, and He strengthens us, renews us, and molds us more into the image of Him.
Throughout each day I didn’t think God was changing me much but when I really reflect over the past several years I realize that God was at work in my life helping me grow. Its so nice to know that no matter what, I am a new creation in Christ and I will always have hope in our Lord and Savior.
5. Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Why I love this scripture:
This is another assurance of God’s unconditional, unfathomable love for us. If we give our lives to Christ, there is absolutely nothing that can separate us. Nothing in all of creation can pull us apart from the God who cares for each of us in a personal way.
Among all of scripture, these verses are especially influential on my life. Every Christian’s experience is different. However, the Word of God is a great adventure to dive into, and I encourage you to find some parts of your own that truly affect your walk with Christ.
