Sometimes it can be difficult to feel God’s presence. We live in a chaotic world, and our culture is filled with immorality that can pull us away from God.
If you ever feel like you’re in a spiritual rut, where your passion is dead and your faith is dying, you are not alone. But no matter what you’re going through, it’s not too late to seek God again. Here are five tips to hear God in your life:
We believe in a God who is ever-present, but isn’t always audible. Just like talking to a friend will build your relationship with him, talking to God will bring you closer to Him. Prayer is a way for us to pour out our thoughts and anxieties to God and for Him to speak to us. Whenever you feel like you’re at the end of the rope, pray. God gives to those who ask.
2. Read the Bible
The Word of God is pure truth, preserved for us by God, in a world of lies. All scripture is inspired by God.
Romans 10:17 says, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” God speaks to us through His Word, and when we open our hearts to what He has to say, we invite His presence into our lives.
3. Talk to other Christians
God puts people in our lives for a reason. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another.” We were not made to be alone.
We were meant to glorify God and reach out to others so that they can do the same. When we stumble, we can always lean on those people that God has inspired to support us.
4. Go to Church
A church is not defined by a building. A church is defined by believers coming together in worship. It was created as a way for us to build our faith and praise God for all He has done. If you feel like you are losing faith, it makes sense to want to restore it.
If you physically go to church, make sure it is genuine; too many churches practice hypocrisy in the name of Jesus. But church doesn’t have to be a physical action. You can worship wherever you’re at. Listen to uplifting music, read scripture, perhaps listen to a sermon on the Internet. Church isn’t reserved for one building.
5. Slow Down and Listen
The main reason why we often fail to hear God is because we either refuse to listen or are too busy. Today more then ever we lead busy lives where it becomes easy to forget about God.
This is no excuse though, no matter how busy you are, be sure to make time for God. You can’t expect to hear God in your life if you aren’t willing to make time for Him each day.
God is not silent. He is alive, and He is in the world today. We become distracted by our circumstances, and we lose sight of eternity in the process. God desires a personal relationship with us, and instead of walking away from Him in our darkest moments, we need to look for His presence in the simplest of ways.
