3 Tips For a Stuck Christian Life

Tips For a Stuck Christian Life

Over time as Christians its easy to get into the same routine of things and lose that “Excitement” we had when we first accepted Christ.

For example, going to church on sundays becomes such a chore and you have to muster every single ounce of effort to get up and go.

To make matters worse, when you actually get to church you are more focused on your cell phone then the actual sermon waiting for that “moment” at your church that signals, “Yes, I’m free to go!”

First let me say, its okay! It happens to everyone at some point or another. I remember when I first accepted Christ, you would have to drag me away from church.

I was so passionate and excited about God and couldn’t wait to see what the Holy Spirit was going to do next.

As months passed, I started to lose that passion and excitement. I would become a little more relaxed on my daily schedule with God. Instead of trying to read the Bible every day, I would read it a few times a week rationalizing that I was busy and was tired when I got home from work and school.

When sunday rolled around I would tell myself that I was saved and it was okay to miss a sunday here and there.

Its so easy to do this isn’t it?

This is why we must be diligent and obedient in our walk with God. We are sinners and as a result, we have a tendency to slack off and  to want to do things our way.

So here are some tips to jump start your walk with God again.

1) Recognize your need for God.

Huh? How is that going to help me reinvigorate my Christian life you might ask? Let me explain.

From my own personal experiences I have learned that it’s not so much that my Christian life is stuck but a matter of recognizing how much I really need God in my life.

Remember when you faced a huge trial in your life? I bet your heart was more open to God because you really needed Him at that moment.

In the same way, our Christian routine can get old and boring at times but its often not an issue with God..but an issue of our heart.

2) Find some activity that is fun or interests you.

I’m kind of weird but one thing that really gets me excited about God is learning about the history of the Bible.

Now that probably for many of you sounds so dry and terribly boring, I know I get it lol. Maybe its because I’m sort of “heady” and love the intellectual aspects of the Bible but the important thing is that it gets me excited about God again.

Another thing I really like doing is listening to Christian music late at night and reading Christian articles.

You need to discover though what is best for you, what puts that smile back on your face again when you think or talk or experience God? What activities bring you that peace and joy in your heart?

Once you figure that out, incorporate it into your life as much as you can.

3) Look For Opportunities To Grow

Complacency more then anything can lead to a stuck ritualistic Christian life. Instead, look for opportunities to grow with God.

How do you that?

You must be willing to step out of your comfort zone. I hate saying this because I struggle with it so much and get really bad anxiety over situations that I feel uncomfortable in.

However, this is such an important tip to help you get out of the same boring Christian routine. I think as we get set in our ways it becomes really easy to settle.

Kind of like a new marriage or new relationship where everything is exciting at the beginning and then a year later your wondering if you made the right decision.

I remember when I was asked to teach at Vacation Bible School and let me tell you, I freaked out. I hate public speaking and I hate being in situations that I know I’ll be vulnerable to criticism. God really helped me through it though and it was a life changing experience.

That experience helped me grow in so many ways because I got out of my comfort zone. In the same way, you need to do that in your walk with God, He will lead you into trials, situations, and moments where you feel totally vulnerable and scared.

God knows this though and does it to help YOU grow.

    Hi Peter,

I live with family who live like the world. They say they believe in Jesus. My parents used to be very active in church. I tried talking to both of them, but they got angry at me. As I have grown I have watched my parents grow further from Christ. I stopped talking with them about anything to do with the Bible. They don’t listen.
